Microchanneling (also known as microneedling, or Collagen Induction Therapy) is rapidly gaining in popularity. So what makes this treatment so incredible? How can needling the skin reduce wrinkles and restore our skin’s health?
Also known as microneedling, this procedure has been getting a lot of lip-service over the past few years.
So you may find yourself asking “OK, but what’s the big deal?” Which is fair, because how often are we promised that something (a product, a diet, or a procedure) will make a drastic change in how we look and feel about ourselves?
Let’s be real, it’s a lot.
That said, if you follow us on social, you’ve probably seen the before and after images of some of our microchanneling clients. What I find remarkable is that anything can do so much in even ONE session. Fine lines, dark spots, scarring, uneven skin tone–they all start to visibly fade. So what IS microchanneling / microneedling and how can it help our skin (yep–the Treja Beauty staff are ALL microchanneling devotees and satisfied customers as well) look, feel, and be healthier?
THE PROCESS
It starts with a needle (and a lot of numbing cream–discomfort is minimal during the procedure.) In fact, while you numb, you get to just relax in our big comfy chairs and get pampered. The procedure lasts about an hour, then you’re out the door with some yummy aftercare products.
Downtime is almost nothing, you’re just red like you have a sunburn for the first day. About a week after your procedure, you’ll notice that all of your skincare products are soaking into your skin beautifully. Why? Because your skin has rapidly turned over (bye bye dead skin!) and your skin is more receptive. It’ll look and feel softer, and your makeup will even apply more smoothly.
Even a single treatment creates noticeable results, but we recommend 5 to get the full benefit.
WHY IT WORKS
It all starts with collagen.
Collagen production starts to decline in our late twenties and continues to decline slowly each year until we hit another drastic drop in our forties. Collagen loss is responsible for wrinkling, sagging, and loss of elasticity. It can even dry our skin out!
Microchanneling boosts collagen production by creating micro-traumas in our skin (the holes are actually so small that the skin closes back up within two hours!) The process creates just enough trauma in the target areas to trigger a healing cascade in the body, which is what shoots all of the good stuff back into our skin and makes it strong and firm again. That’s why we see such a rapid reduction of fine lines, sagging, and other signs of aging in our microchanneling clients.
Stay tuned for part 2 where we share how microchanneling can reduce scarring, even out skin-tone, and reduce redness due to hypo or hyper pigmentation.
