You Don’t Actually Want Microblading

Microblading was the go-to permanent makeup solution for thin, sparse, or light eyebrows in the mid to late 2010s. In fact, it was so popular and so ubiquitous that “microblading” is often used as a catch-all term for eyebrow permanent makeup. So, do you really want microblading? Maybe! But let’s explore that, because there are so many other great techniques and services available today.

What IS Microblading, Anyway?

Microblading is a hand technique that involves creating a series of thin, hair-like strokes in the brow area and filling those strokes with pigment. Patients are numbed during the service, so it’s not typically painful, but it can be uncomfortable. Microblading is limiting because some people simply aren’t good candidates for the procedure. For example, if you are prone to cystic or hormonal acne around the brows or have sensitive skin, microblading can increase irritation.

What Other Techniques can Give Me WOW Brows?

Today, there is a whole menu of techniques to choose from, most of which are gentler than microblading.

Pixelblading is a technique that creates beautiful hairstrokes by hand tapping pigment into the skin. The process causes less trauma to the skin, which makes it a better option for most people. Pixel Brows produce beautiful, multi-dimensional results.

Nano Strokes are ideal if you’re looking for that clean hairstroke look that microblading popularized. With nano strokes, we use a machine instead of a blade to create the illusion of fuller brows. The procedure is much gentler than microblading and is therefore suitable for most skin types.

Powder Brows will give you that lovely, defined, “just did your makeup” look. The process uses a machine to create a soft, powdery look (hence the name.) Powder brows won’t create the illusion of hairstrokes, but they’re a great option if you’re looking to define and shape your brows.

Which Technique is Right for Me?

If you want your brows done, the best question to ask is: what kind of results am I looking for? A good PMU artist will be able to assess your existing brows, look at how you like to do your makeup, and will work with you to choose a service, color, and shape that will elevate your features.

Unsure of  the results you’re looking for? The best place to start is by looking at inspiration pictures and narrowing down the effects and shapes that you like. You are also welcome to schedule a free consultation at Treja Beauty! We’ll work with you to help create brows that enhance and balance your natural features, whether they’re full and fluffy nano brows or soft ombre combo brows.
